Offered here is a classic sporterized rifle built on a solid Swedish Mauser action: a 1916 Carl Gustafs M96, now in a functional 6.5x55mm Sporter configuration.
This rifle began its life as a military M96 over a century ago. The action remains in good mechanical order with visible numbers matching. It has been professionally sporterized for hunting use, with modifications including a drilled and tapped receiver and a modified low-profile bolt handle to accommodate optics. It comes equipped with a Bushnell Scopechief VI scope, which features clear optics and a duplex reticle.
The metalwork retains a blued finish that shows honest handling marks, light scratches, and a few minor rust speckles consistent with its age and use. The one-piece sporter stock has a straight grip and a smooth steel buttplate, and includes sling swivels with a brown leather sling. Please note the stock has a small crack near the front swivel.
As with many sporters of this era, the original military sights have been removed. The bore is rated in “poor” condition, showing wear and light pitting, making this an ideal candidate for a project or for use as a “woods rifle” at shorter ranges.
This is an affordable and historically interesting rifle ready for a new owner to carry afield or to use as a base for a custom project.
